Optic (UK )is sad to announce the death of Ron Bentley, who played a big role in the foundation years of OPTIC (UK)’s and latterly as Treasurer.

Ron will be remembered for his contribution to the industry, OPTIC (UK) and his amazing stories which were always told with such humour and enthusiasm.

Our thoughts are with his wife and family.

As has been seen in all other medical specialities no 'Live' exhibitions have taken place for many months. However, OPTIC (UK) has been working very closely behind the scenes with the AEO (Association of Event Organisers) AEV (Association of Event Venues) and ESSA (Event Supplier and Services Association). They have launched the "All Secure Standard' which is a framework of COVID-19 industry and best practice guidance for business events and consumers shows which take place in conference and exhibition centres. OPTIC (UK) will now be working towards the 'All Secure Standard' more information on the standard can be found here

With his razor sharp mind and ready wit he was an inspiration and guide to those that worked with him, many have subsequently enjoyed their own successful careers in the Ophthalmic industry.

"OPTIC (UK) was established in 1983 and Michael played a leading role in its formation and setting of its objectives. He was appointed as Chairman during the formative years in 1986 laying the firm foundations and principles on which the association has built."
Michael Bench - previous Chairman OPTIC (UK)

"Mike was one of the most inspirational people in Optics and he was a true leader! I will always be in his debt for the guidance he gave me in my early years in optics. His influence in my career will never be forgotten."

"Occasionally in life one is lucky enough to meet people who end up shaping you’re your life. Mike was one such person. On the surface larger than life; no nonsense sort of guy who always exuded confidence & always drew out the best in others. He was a kind, inspirational guy who I feel honoured to have known and spent hundreds of hours with.  Sleep well Mike.  Tone."
Tony Ellison – previous Vice Chairman OPTIC (UK)

"Mike was a  real inspiration for me hence why I joined the OPTIC(UK) Council. Even from the early years (80’s) and I was typing their minutes, it was clear to me that this group were pioneers of their time and were going to make a huge difference to the industry with all of their support and passion for Ophthalmology."
Laura Haverley – Head of UK Sales Keeler – Current OPTIC (UK) Council Member.
